Classical in spirit

A dance club of Ahmedabad recently organised a dance show presenting classical dance forms - kathak and chhau.Even as the trend of learning different forms of western dance is gaining popularity among the youth, a dance club of Ahmedabad recently organised a dance show presenting classical dance forms - kathak and chhau.The dance club has been organising shows on a regular basis to promote classical dance forms and is trying to inculcate the spirit of kathak in young students.More than 350 people attended the event. The show began with a kathak performance titled 'A Dialogue in Kathak.' It had two major segments - Shringargati and Laygati. The performances were full of energy. The second performance of the evening was chhau dance performed by the artists of Sangeet Natak Academy, Orissa. Among the two segments of chao, the first one was a solo dance performance titled 'Natraj' followed by 'Geeta' . Thank to the well-coordinated postures and excellent footwork, the event turned out to be quite a success.
